Built In-House

Custom Engine Builds

Custom engine building on site to your requirements - from mild street engines to full race engines. Designed, assembled, and dyno-tested under one roof.

Every Build Starts on the Dyno

Most engine builders send you down the road to get it tuned. We do it all here - the build and the tune happen in the same workshop, with the same team. That means we can spec components around the tune, not the other way around.

Whether it's a classic Japanese inline-six, a V8 for the strip, or a tough street engine that needs to start every morning and still make power - we build to your brief, your budget, and your goals.

With over 30 years of engine building experience and a Mainline hub dyno on site, every engine is verified before it leaves. You get real numbers, not promises.

What We Build

Build Types

Street Engines

Reliable power for daily drivers and weekend cars. Upgraded internals, ported heads, and performance cams - built to last and tuned on the dyno.

  • Forged pistons and rods for added reliability
  • Performance camshaft selection and fitting
  • Cylinder head porting and flow work
  • Full balancing and blueprinting

Race Engines

Full race spec builds for drag, circuit, and rally. Every component selected for maximum performance within your class rules and budget.

  • Billet and forged rotating assemblies
  • Race-spec cylinder head preparation
  • Dry sump and oiling system upgrades
  • Engine dyno testing before installation

Engine Rebuilds

Worn or damaged engine? We rebuild to factory spec or better. Full inspection, machining, and assembly with quality parts.

  • Full disassembly and inspection
  • Block and head machining
  • New bearings, seals, and gaskets throughout
  • Run-in procedure and dyno verification

Turbo & Forced Induction Builds

Purpose-built engines for boost. Internals, head work, and bottom-end prep designed to handle the power you're chasing.

  • Low-compression forged piston setups
  • Head gasket and stud upgrades
  • Oil and cooling system upgrades for boost

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

It depends entirely on the scope. A mild street engine freshen-up with quality parts can start from around $3,000–$5,000 NZD. A full forged bottom-end build for a turbo car is typically $8,000–$15,000+. Full race engines vary widely based on spec. We'll quote accurately once we know your goals, vehicle, and budget.

A straightforward rebuild with parts on the shelf can be turned around in 2–3 weeks. Full custom builds with machining, balancing, and parts sourcing typically take 4–8 weeks depending on parts availability. We'll give you a realistic timeline before we start.

Yes - Japanese engines are one of our specialties. We build and rebuild SR20s, RBs, 2JZs, 4Gs, rotaries, and more. Whether it's a mild street setup or a full race engine, we have the experience and parts access to get it done right.

That's exactly what sets us apart. The engine build and the dyno tune happen under one roof, with the same team. This means we can spec components around the tune - cam profiles, compression ratios, and turbo sizing are all chosen with the final calibration in mind.

We can do either. We have accounts with major performance parts suppliers in NZ and Australia, and we'll source quality components at competitive prices. If you've already got parts or prefer a specific brand, we're happy to work with what you bring in.

A full rebuild includes complete disassembly, inspection, block and head machining as needed, new bearings, gaskets, and seals throughout, reassembly to spec, and a run-in procedure. We also dyno-test the engine after installation to verify everything is right before you drive it.
