Dyno Tuning for Tauranga & Bay of Plenty

Specialist dyno tuning, diesel tuning, and ECU remapping for Tauranga and the wider Bay of Plenty. Just 1.5 hours from Tauranga via SH29 through the Kaimai Ranges.

Why BOP Customers Drive to Hamilton

Tauranga and the Bay of Plenty have a strong car scene and a massive diesel ute market, but specialist dyno tuning options are limited. Most local shops run roller dynos that struggle with accuracy, especially on high-power and 4WD vehicles.

At The Torque Lab, we run a Mainline hub dyno - the same technology used by OEMs and professional motorsport teams. It connects directly to the wheel hubs, eliminating tyre slip and giving repeatable, accurate results. For diesel tuning, performance ECU work, and serious builds, the difference in precision matters.

We're based at 32 Ellis Street, Frankton, Hamilton - straight off SH1, about 1.5 hours from Tauranga via SH29 through the Kaimai Ranges. Many of our BOP customers drop off in the morning and pick up the same day.

What We Offer

Services for Tauranga Customers

Hub Dyno Tuning

Our Mainline hub dyno connects directly to the wheel hubs - no rollers, no tyre slip. This gives us accurate, repeatable power measurements that roller dynos can't match. For Tauranga customers chasing real numbers, the drive to Hamilton is worth it.

  • Accurate hub-mounted power measurement
  • Real-time data logging during every run
  • Before and after dyno sheets included
  • Safe for AWD and 4WD vehicles

Diesel Tuning

The Bay of Plenty runs on diesel - from tradies in Mount Maunganui to forestry crews in the Eastern BOP. We tune Hilux, Ranger, Navara, D-Max, and more for the right balance of power, torque, and fuel economy. Every tune is DPF-safe and verified on the dyno.

  • ECU remapping for power and fuel economy
  • DPF-safe tuning that maintains compliance
  • Torque management and transmission calibration
  • Towing and load-specific tune profiles

ECU Tuning & Remapping

Whether it's a factory ECU remap or a full standalone installation, we handle the complete process. Haltech, Link ECU, HP Tuners, and MoTeC - installed, wired, and tuned on the dyno. Japanese imports, Aussie muscle, and modern turbo cars are all covered.

  • Factory ECU remapping via OBD or bench
  • Standalone ECU installation and calibration
  • Haltech, Link ECU, HP Tuners, MoTeC
  • Full sensor calibration and diagnostics

Diesel Tuning for the Bay of Plenty

The BOP is diesel country. From tradies running Rangers and Hiluxes around Mount Maunganui to forestry crews hauling through the Eastern Bay, diesel utes are everywhere - and most of them are running factory calibrations that leave power and economy on the table.

Our diesel tunes are built on the dyno, not downloaded from a database. We adjust fuel delivery, boost pressure, and injection timing for real-world gains you can feel in towing, overtaking, and fuel consumption. Every tune is DPF-safe and verified with full data logging.

Popular diesel vehicles we tune from the Tauranga area include the Toyota Hilux, Ford Ranger, Nissan Navara, Isuzu D-Max, Mitsubishi Triton, and Mazda BT-50.

FAQs

Tauranga Dyno Tuning FAQs

We're about 1.5 hours from Tauranga via SH29 through the Kaimai Ranges. Many of our BOP customers make a day of it - drop the vehicle off in the morning and pick it up tuned and ready to go by the end of the day. For bigger jobs, we can arrange multi-day scheduling to suit.

Most dyno shops in Tauranga and the Bay of Plenty run roller dynos. Our Mainline hub dyno connects directly to the wheel hubs, eliminating tyre slip and giving far more accurate, repeatable results. For diesel tuning, ECU remapping, and serious performance work, the precision of a hub dyno makes a real difference to the final result.

Yes - diesel utes are one of our most common jobs from the BOP. We tune Hilux, Ranger, Navara, D-Max, and more. Whether you're after more towing power for forestry work, better fuel economy for highway driving, or a combination of both, every diesel tune is done on the dyno with full data logging.

You're welcome to hang around the workshop and watch the process. A standard ECU remap takes 2-4 hours, so most Tauranga customers drop off in the morning and explore Hamilton or grab a coffee while we work. For standalone ECU tunes or more involved jobs, we'll give you a realistic timeframe when you book in.

We see a solid mix from the BOP - diesel utes like Rangers and Hiluxes from tradies and forestry crews, turbo Japanese imports like Skylines and Silvias from the local car scene, and tow vehicles that need more grunt for boat ramps and hill work around the Kaimais. Whatever you're driving, we've likely tuned one before.
