Dyno Tuning & ECU Remapping in Hamilton
Professional dyno tuning, ECU remapping, and performance car tuning at our purpose-built workshop in Frankton, Hamilton. Walk-ins welcome, same-day availability.
Hamilton's Dedicated Dyno Tuning Workshop
The Torque Lab is Hamilton's purpose-built dyno tuning and ECU remapping workshop, located at 32 Ellis Street in Frankton. We're not a general mechanic that happens to have a dyno - tuning is all we do, and it's what we've been doing for over 30 years.
Our workshop runs a Mainline hub dyno - the same technology used by vehicle manufacturers for factory testing. Unlike roller dynos, the hub dyno connects directly to the wheel hubs, eliminating tyre slip and giving fully repeatable, accurate results. It handles 2WD, AWD, and 4WD vehicles without putting stress on the drivetrain.
Whether you're after a factory ECU remap on your daily driver, a full standalone ECU installation on a turbo build, or a diesel tune for your work ute - everything is done in-house, verified on the dyno, and backed by data. No guesswork, no generic flash files.
What We Do
Car Tuning Services in Hamilton
From quick ECU remaps to full engine builds - every job is completed on site at our Frankton workshop with the dyno as the final checkpoint.
Dyno Tuning
Custom tuning on our Mainline hub dyno. Every calibration is built specifically for your vehicle - not a generic file remap. Full power runs with real-time data logging, before-and-after dyno sheets included.
ECU Tuning & Remapping
Haltech, Link ECU, and HP Tuners - installed, wired, and tuned. Whether you need a standalone ECU upgrade or a factory ECU remap, we handle the full process from installation through to final calibration on the dyno.
Diesel Tuning
Hilux, Ranger, Navara, D-Max, and more. We tune for the right balance of power, torque, and fuel economy with DPF-safe calibrations. Every diesel tune is verified on the dyno with full data logging.
Custom Fabrication
Through Gas Pedal Fabrication on site, we offer custom intake manifolds, intercooler piping, exhaust systems, and turbo kits. Having fabrication and tuning under one roof means parts are designed around the tune.
Engine Builds
From mild street engines to full race builds - designed, assembled, and dyno-tested on site. We build SR20s, RBs, 2JZs, LS engines, and more. Every engine is verified on the dyno before it leaves.
The Team
Who's Working on Your Car
Dayne Tyler - Founder
Dayne founded The Torque Lab to bring precision dyno tuning to the Waikato. With over 30 years in automotive performance and custom engine building, he's built and tuned everything from mild street engines to full race builds. His approach is straightforward: every vehicle leaves with data-backed results, not guesswork.
Chris - Lead Tuner
Chris leads the tuning side of the workshop, bringing deep experience across Japanese imports, classic cars, and modern performance platforms. From Haltech and Link ECU setups to factory ECU remapping via HP Tuners, he handles the calibration work on the dyno.
Dion - ECU Installer
Dion handles ECU installations, wiring, and sensor calibration. His methodical approach to data logging and diagnostics ensures every installation is clean, reliable, and ready for tuning. The go-to for complex standalone ECU fitments.
Why Local Matters
Hamilton's Performance Shop
Having a dedicated performance shop in Hamilton means you don't need to trailer your car to Auckland or Tauranga for quality dyno tuning. We're right here in Frankton, five minutes from the Waikato Expressway, with easy access from anywhere in the greater Hamilton area.
Being local also means we're accessible for follow-up work. If you add modifications later and need a retune, or if you want to check in on how the tune is holding up, we're just down the road. Many of our customers come back regularly as their builds progress.
We also work with customers from across the Waikato and Bay of Plenty - Cambridge, Te Awamutu, Morrinsville, Matamata, Tauranga, and Rotorua. If you're willing to drive a bit further, the quality of the tune makes it worthwhile.

What Sets Our Workshop Apart
The centrepiece of the workshop is our Mainline hub dyno. Hub dynos are a step above roller dynos - they bolt directly to the wheel hubs, which means zero tyre slip, no heat build-up in the tyres, and completely repeatable results from run to run. This is the same technology used by OEMs and professional motorsport teams for factory calibration and development.
For ECU tuning, we work across all the major platforms. Haltech Elite and Sport series for Japanese imports and custom builds. Link ECU G4X and Thunder for plug-in and wire-in applications. HP Tuners VCM Suite with MPVI3 for factory ECU remapping on GM, Ford, and other OEM platforms. Every tune is built on the dyno with real-time data logging - knock detection, wideband O2, exhaust gas temperatures, and boost pressure all monitored throughout the process.
